Review Hillocks Hotel & Spa Siem Reap

Review Hillocks Hotel Pool Lotus

I stayed at the Hillocks Hotel & Spa during my trip to Siem Reap and had a wonderful time. This retro-style hotel with a villa concept is just ten minutes aways from Siem Reap’s centre and perfect if you want to explore Angkor Wat.

Beforehand, I got in touch with the hotel to arrange our tour. The staff was extremely nice and responsive and they helped us book a driver and a guide and put together our individual tour. The tour cost about USD 100 for our group of four and included the driver and guide. I checked online in some forums and it was in line with the prices I was quoted from other providers. Furthermore, the hotel prepared breakfast boxes, as we left very early for our sunrise tour and did not make it back to the hotel for breakfast.

Hillocks Hotel Siem Reap Orchids
If I ever have a garden, I want a tree stump with orchids!

I found the location of the hotel really convenient. Most of the hotels are further away from the temple sites. It took us about 30 minutes to go to Angkor Wat in the morning (including the stop for the ticket purchase). The airport was about 20 minutes away. Pub Street and the city centre were about 10 minutes by tuk tuk. It cost us between USD 2-3 to go to the city centre. Considering the noise in the city centre, the location of the Hillocks Hotel was perfect because I would not want to stay in the busy Pub Street area.

We booked our room including breakfast and airport pick-up and drop-off via Expedia. However, I would recommend booking directly via the hotel. They might have special deals that are not advertised on Expedia. At the time of my stay in November 2017, they had an offer for USD 60 (about EUR 50) for a standard double room including breakfast.

Siem Reap Hillocks Hotel Fruits
Complementary fruits at the room. We also got some really nice biscuits.

The rooms are in separate villas and the resort gave me a vibe of Beverly Hills in the 1950s. I do not why 🙂 When you book, get in touch with the hotel and ask if a room on the first floor is available. We stayed in one of the ground floor rooms and they can be a bit dark.

Siem Reap Hillocks Hotel Lizzard
You will meet lizzards, toads and snakes. No need to be scared, this is normal if you stay in a very green resort and usually they are more scared of you than you are of them.

The resort is a very green and beautiful place, with orchids throughout the garden. Please bear in mind that in tropical countries, green means animals. Therefore, avoid to keep the doors and windows open for too long if you do not want to meet some animal friends in your room. The hotel provided mosquito plug-ins and we sprayed some repellent around the area of our bed.

I can highly recommend the spa treatments at the hotel. I enjoyed a complimentary Khmer Massage which was really nice.

Review Hillocks Hotel Pool Orchids
Probably one of my favourite orchid pictures ever – right after the morning rain.

My only criticism of the entire stay was the food which can be improved further.

Summing up, I think the Hillocks Hotel & Spa is perfect for a weekend trip to Siem Reap and Angkor Wat. The location is very convenient, the staff is extremely courteous and the price-performance ratio is very good. I highly recommend staying there for your trip to Cambodia.
