Insider’s Guide to Munich’s Neighbourhoods: Ludwigvorstadt-Isarvorstadt

When I lived in Munich, my apartment was in the Ludwigvorstadt-Isarvorstadt district and I absolutely loved the area. It is a cool mix of old and new buildings, a bustling scene of bars, cafés and restaurants and a vibe like in a cosmopolitan city like Berlin or London. Forget about the inner city when you visit Munich, come to Ludwigvorstadt-Isarvorstadt to get to know the real and cool Munich 😉
1. Café Konditorei Kustermann
Delicious pastries, try their Linzertorte. (Lindwurmstraße 36)
2. J-Bar
This is a true insider tip: this bar actually saved my life while I lived in Munich. I cannot remember how often I rushed in after a long day at work and had their delicious Ramen soup. (Maistraße 28)
3. Nam Giao 31
This small restaurant serves authentic Vietnamese food. (Maistraße 31)
4. Rive Gauche
Parisian Flair in the heart of Munich. (Thalkirchner Straße 11)

5. Pepe Nero
Delicious Italian food at really reasonable prices (dining in Munich can be a very expensive experience…). I also love the vibe of the Glockenbach-district (not only because I used to live there): there are so many bars, cafés and restaurants and in summer you can sit outside and watch the people passing by. (Feilitzschstraße 23)
6. Sushi and Soul
Cool vibes for drinks and sushi. (Klenzestraße 71)
7. The Flushing Meadows
This hip hotel also has one of the coolest rooftop bars in Munich. One of my favourite places for drinks. (Fraunhoferstrasse 32)
8. Hungriges Herz
This cute café is also a really nice breakfast and brunch place. (Fraunhoferstraße 42)
9. Paradiso
Red velvet, chandeliers and a colourful crowd – this club was “the” place to party in the 1970s and 80s and it still has its charme. One of my favourite party places in Munich. (Rumfordstraße 2)
10. Cotidiano
This is one of my favourite places for Brunch. Their pastries are also delicious and they also serve tartes flambees. (Gärtnerplatz 6)
11. Hotel Deutsche Eiche
This hotel and bar is popular among the gay crowd in Munich and has a really cool vibe. Moreover, the view over Munich on its rooftop is beautiful. (Reichenbachstraße 13)
12. CHI
I moved to Munich after I lived in Shanghai and really missed Asian food. CHI has the best dim sum selection in town and helped me overcome my cravings 🙂 (Rumfordstraße 14)

Thank you! I wanted to share recommendations which show that Munich is much more than just about the Oktoberfest.

I’d love to eventually get to Germany, in general, as a majority of my family background is German. Such a large country, it’s almost hard to know where to begin! Great suggestions. Had no idea Munich offered such diverse dining options.
I tried to show a different side of the city. You should definitely go to Germany one day, it is really interesting to visit!
