Kiridara Luang Prabang Hotel Review

Kiridara Hotel Luang Prabang Terrace View Hotel Room

On my trip to Luang Prabang, we stayed at the Kiridara Hotel located up a hill overlooking the beautiful scenery of the area. The Kiridara was the perfect combination of a relaxed resort-style vibe and yet not too far from the main attractions of this charming town in Laos.

Location

Kiridara is located about 2 km from Luang Prabang’s centre. Situated on a hill it, overlooks the town. Even though it is not located in the main area of Luang Prabang, I really liked being a bit further from the centre and have a more relaxed resort-like feeling. The hotel has a free shuttle service to and from the centre. There is a fixed schedule for the mornings and evenings. Outside of this schedule, you can ask for a transfer from the hotel to the centre at any time and the staff will check if the buggy is available.

It takes about ten to 15 minutes from the airport to reach the hotel. The Kiridara has a shuttle service which can be booked from 6 am to 9.30 pm. Additional fees apply for that shuttle service.

The Rooms

The hotel rooms look like multiple villas contributing to the resort-like vibe. They are located up the hill and surround the pool. We had a lovely room near the reception right next to the pool. The decor of the room was very pretty with dark teak wood and local artworks. I really liked the canopy made of typical Laotian fabric.

Our room had a small terrace and a beautiful view of the pool. The rooms are located in a “V” around the pool and have small terraces or decks to chill out.

Dining

There is an all-day restaurant which also serves breakfast. Breakfast was a mix of local and international food. Most of it was buffet-style. However, there are some dishes which can be ordered such as eggs or pancakes. We ordered the waffles which were really fluffy and tasty and the banana pancakes.

There is a terrace next to the breakfast room with a beautiful view of Luang Prabang. I enjoyed having breakfast outside as the mornings were a bit cooler and we could enjoy the view.

I actually did not have the chance to dine at the restaurant but we did order room service. The in-room dining menu offered local as well as international dishes. The fried rice and the fried noodles were nice.

Facilities

As mentioned above, the rooms are located around the pool. This centrepiece of the hotel overlooks Luang Prabang. I really enjoyed the intimate atmosphere and the boutique hotel vibe.

There is also a spa with a wide range of massages and treatments.

The hotel has a shuttle service to and from the city with a fixed schedule in the mornings and afternoons/evenings. Outside of these times, you can ask at the reception if the shuttle is available and can take you to the city.

Wi-fi is complimentary and you will receive logins and passwords at check-in. One login is valid for one device only. Therefore, ask for access for all your devices.

Activities

You can book tours and activities at the Kiridara. If you are not interested in a full tour, the hotel can help you organise a driver to get to your desired destination. Check out my post about things to do in Luang Prabang for more information.

Outside of the Hotel

Around the hotel there are a few small local shops but there is actually not too much to do around that area of Luang Prabang. The city centre is not too far but because of the heat, I recommend to take the shuttle instead of walking.

Check-In and Check-Out

Check-In is available from 2 pm, check-out at noon. We arrived at noon and we were lucky to get our room earlier at no charge.

Service

I have to give a five star rating for the hotel service and the staff. In my Monday Postcard I wrote about a very special act of kindness which happened during my stay at the Kiridara. I fell sick during the last night of the trip and we left with one of the first flights in the morning. We enquired at the reception if they happened to have some medication. Unfortunately, they had nothing to help me out.

We had booked a driver to take us to the airport. While we were checking out, the receptionist talked to the driver if he knew about a pharmacy nearby. However, it was still too early and there was also no pharmacy at the airport. Our driver then took a motorcycle back to his home and got some medication for me while the receptionist tried to comfort us.

I really want to thank them here for this exceptional act of kindness and customer service. This is actually the main reason why I would recommend the Kiridara for your stay at Luang Prabang.
