A Very Special Evening in Phuket – Restaurant Review of The Grill @ Amatara Wellness Resort

To celebrate the birthday of a very special person, I recently had dinner at The Grill at the Amatara Wellness Resort in Phuket, Thailand. Not only is the resort itself beautiful but also is it the home of this dining gem. Let me take you on a culinary trip.
The Grill is located in the heart of the Amatara Wellness Resort in Panwa, the South-Eastern part of the island. It has a beautiful outdoor dining area overlooking the sea. Before you head for your dinner, have a drink at The Grill Lounge right next to the restaurant. I can highly recommend the Mango Mojito. The perfect time is to head for drinks at around 6 pm and then dinner at around 6.30 pm. That way you can enjoy the beautiful view during sunset.
On the evening of our dinner, we were supposed to sit outside. However, that evening, there were a lot of mosquitoes (I think it was due to the rainy season) and we decided to switch inside.

The Grill offers a beautiful fusion culinary experience of Thai and Western cuisine. We had the 3-course tasting menu where we could choose starters, mains and a dessert for BHT 1,800 (about USD 55 / EUR 46), excluding alcoholic drinks.

The amuse-gueule was an oyster topped with pickled vegetables. I am actually not a big fan of oysters, but this one was quite nice. I ordered the Phuket prawn salad as starters which was really refreshing and a great start of the dinner. During the break between starters and main course, we were served some mango sorbet.

My main course was the wok-seared red snapper. It was absolutely delicious – the sauce was the right balance between sweet and sour. We could order one side dish with it – please do not judge me, I took the French fries. 🙂 I actually thought the dish would come with a portion of plain rice, as wok dishes usually do. This is my only criticism of the restaurant: it would have been nice to indicate on the menu that this is not the case.

The absolute highlight of the evening was the dessert – not only for dessert lovers like me (I usually save up space for the dessert). I ordered the chocolate dessert “Cocoa & Beans” and it was an unbelievable selection of pralines, cake, crushed cookies, chocolate mousse and gelato.

Throughout our dinner, the team of The Grill was extremely courteous. Special requirements or wishes were no problem at all. If you are staying in Phuket and would like to celebrate a special evening, you should head to The Grill and enjoy the delicious dining experience with a view.
